The dulcet tones of the Dark Side…
Last week, I took Wednesday off to prep for Thanksgiving. It was just my 7 month old son and I at home for the day while my husband was teaching (well, and the cats.) It was about time for Porter’s morning nap and he was very obviously cranky, so I decided to rock him to sleep.
Sometimes when I rock him, I hum. The problem is that most of the time when I want to hum a little tune, I can’t remember anything lullaby-like, so I just kind of hum randomly. On Wednesday, I started to hum and watched him slowly close his eyes as I held him in my arms gently rocking…
…and then I realized that I was humming the Imperial March from Star Wars.
I stopped humming. I stopped rocking. But as soon as I stopped Porter opened his eyes, so I quickly went back to rocking and humming the march. Darth Porter went right to sleep.

Haha, that’s so awesome.

HA!! That’s great!! I felt like such a bad mom the first time I felt the boys kick and when everyone asked about it, I had to admit that I was in the car cranking “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen…must have been the awesome bass line that got them dancing!! And, most recently, Aaron and I were making 80′s cds for his class Halloween party…after he decided we liked “Funkytown” and included it, I hit pause and moved on…his little face just crumpled and he started crying that “OMG, my heart is BROKEN!!!” sob with huge tears that would make me run through hell or high water to make it all better. I turned the song back on, and he grinned from ear to ear…I don’t get it, but if he seems a little sad or cranky, he perks right up when I say, “Do we need to take a trip to Funkytown?”, and he is laughing by the first chorus! Cherish those little moments…the ones that may seem so small at the time are actually some of the best and often the most memorable when you look back!
