Trying to put the Artist in Wife. Mom. Artist. Geek…
I was hoping to do some grand first post on this thing (which by the way, isn’t really looking how I would like it to…but I am working on it…) but I have some cool news to share instead!
For the past year, I have been doing projects with Art House Co-op in Atlanta, GA. I have sold one set of canvases, one of my sketchbooks has toured the U.S. and now another piece will be in a book!
I am so, so , so excited about this!
I really love Art House projects. After a summer trip to Asheville, NC last year I was inspired to start creating art again. My own art was put on the back burner since I started working as a professional scenic artist in 2001. My day job sometimes left me creatively tapped out–and plain ol’ tired. I completely lost my artistic voice.
Art House has helped me find it–or at least not be afraid to try.
Since their shows are mostly set up around projects, Art House gives me a jump off point–something to start me in one direction. And they give me a deadline–which I desperately need!
Working with them has been a fun experiment thus far. It is cool to get something in the mail, make a project out of it and then send it off seemingly into the ether. I haven’t even been to any of the shows I have been involved in (but you can see some of the openings broadcast live on the web, which is cool!)
Well, that’s my first post here. Woo-hoo! Hope you keep checking back because I have so many things that I want to share with you

YAY, I have been waiting for your first post on the new blog! You have definitely inspired me to start doing projects with arthouse. I am so excited to get my sketchbook and little canvases.
I sooo know what you mean about those deadlines! Look on craigslist to see if there are any places in your town accepting artwork to put up. I can’t wait to see some of your work.
What is your favorite media to work with?
Wow, congratulations on you good news! I wish I could see some of your work that’s getting shown! I’m sure this is a great start towards a new part of your career as “artist”. Porter will be so proud
Although I love paint–I really love collage these days too. So right now everything is kind of revolving around paper, glue, matte and gloss mediums and acrylic paint.
Love the new site and congrats on all the great work. Sounds amazing and fulfilling and exciting!
Thanks!
YAY! Great new page and congrats on the artwork!
Congrats Lori! That’s so exciting!
I know you’re super busy these days, but I just wanted to let you know that I gave your new blog a Lovely Blog award.
